This is, and I say this in all sobriety, the most bat-shit loony film I have seen this year a film whose casual surrealism and indifference to narrative realism threaten to devour the audience. But even so, I don't think that anybody could have predicted just how crazy the final product was going to be, and by "crazy" I mean K R A Z Y. Let us instead take it as an indication that Bee Movie was a rather slapdash and ill-conceived project that was doomed from the start to a fate of incoherence and irrelevance. DreamWorks would like it if we took it as a measure of how much faith the canniest entertainer in Hollywood has in the most successful stand-up comedian in history. There are a lot of lessons to take from that story. He did not thereupon take up producing duties. Now it doesn't take that patented Spielberg Insight behind such epochal works as Memoirs of a Geisha and Taken to see that this was a highly-developed story with nothing but potential, and so the producer cleared a path for the film at the august DreamWorks Animation. At the end of the movie Vanessa and Barry become boyfriend and girlfriend. There's a by now ubiquitous story about the origins of Bee Movie: Steven Spielberg and Jerry Seinfeld were having lunch one day (well, of course they were!) when Seinfeld mused that it would be amusing to make a cartoon about bees, and title it Bee Movie, because you see it sounds kind of like "B-movie," so it's funny. Vanessa later proceeds to break up with Ken. On one of these interactions Ken arrives late to dinner and attempts to kill Barry with a copy of Italian Vogue, fire and a lethal showerhead. Barry begins to work on his lawsuit at her apartment and is flying outside the hive to see her. This is the first time we can see a romantic connection between the two. She talks about her career and her interest in flowers. You know, whatever" in response to Ken suggesting yogurt night Venessa starts to lose interest in him.Īfter Barry introduces himself to Vanessa they start to get to know each other over a cup of coffee on her apartment balcony. We can tell from Vanessa's line "Sure, Ken. They partake in activities such as tennis, yogurt night and small social gatherings. After her and Barry restored the flowers in Central Park, her shop was rebranded to "Vanessa & Barry" where they now offer flowers, honey and legal advice.Įarly in the movie, Vanessa is seen with Ken who’s her boyfriend. After the trial however, Vanessa reveals that the shop has completely shut down due to the lack of flowers. Vanessa is the owner of "Vanessa's Flowers" which appears to be quite successful at the beginning of the movie. She ended up acting as a lawyer anyway during the events of the film, however. Her parents wanted her to be a doctor or a lawyer but she didn't want to be either and instead became a florist. When she’s dressed as the princess, she wears a purple princess hat. In court, she wears what appears to be another yellow dress with a black vine/leaf pattern on it. She also wears a beaded necklace and is only seen without it in the dream sequence, where she wears a yellow white-striped dress. She commonly wears a white collared shirt with a pink vest, sometimes covered with a black jacket. Her appearance is tall and slender with green eyes and a brown bob haircut.
